Heist (2018)

Heist is a documentary focusing on the story of the world’s largest cyberheist, a hacking conspiracy conducted across continents and striking deep into the heart of the Federal Reserve in New York.

With a story of such a technical nature, the use of 3D and 2D motion infographics was vital. Both these and the title cards lend the film a glithchy, cyberpunk vibe and tie it together aesthetically.

The aesthetic here was intended was to capture a low-tech, semi-utilitarian vibe, in keeping with the relatively low-tech hacking techniques used by the robbers themselves.

The imagery is full of incidental details, such as the use of animated lines of binary code as decorative element, or the recurring red and green colour motif, evoking the earliest days of computer technology.

This slideshow exhibits stills taken from a pivotal sequence in the film (featured in the Showreel above). They illustrate the transit of money and digital communications across the globe, in a style reminiscent of utilitarian/military technology.
